We were recently asked in a women’s group what it would take for us to be proud of our children.
I must admit being the youngest no matter what event we’re in I get asked to go first and it can get a little annoying and without a doubt the FIRST thing that came to mind was:
3 John 1:4 “I could have no greater joy than to hear that my children are following the truth.”
As I said this I can see a few faces confused because as we kept talking many of them said a great life, great marriage, relationship with God, well off, loving others, great careers like themselves.
I don’t find ANY of these to be bad at all, in fact I hope my children have a great life but to me that’s not the point of life. To me knowing my children walk in the truth means they will be lead by the Holy Spirit to marry a man/women of God, that leads to a great marriage (not easy, but better) they will have a great life according to God and not materialistic and comfort. It will lead them to Gods will for them and that includes a career if that is what they want to do.
Truly, I could have no greater joy than to hear that my children are following the truth.
Dear father, help me to guide my children to you and the cross. Give me your wisdom and not the worlds to raise children who aren’t easy moved by the troubles of this world, children who are bold and brave and know who they are according to you and not this world. Father I ask in your son’s powerful name that my children may not die without the opportunity to know you and accept you. I ask that my children may be quick to come to repentance and that your Spirit may dwell in them from a young age. Father help me as a mother to set the example for them in how to seek you and not be to worried about this world and what standard they think our children should have. In Jesus name amen.
